logo
• I have incorporated the idea of an intertextual link to a famous horror film Psycho into our logo by adding a running shower in our logo to symbolise flowing blood from the phallic objected lettering, which is a signifier of a weapon.
• I have used Photoshop-Elements to manipulate a photo I took of a shower head using a digital camera, by using the lasso tool and magic wand to cut around it, then using the artistic filter effect of neon in a similar colour blue to the lettering, we then re-size the image to fit with the lettering.• I added water drops coming out of the shower head to help better establish what it was.
• I used the colour blue because it’s an inoffensive unisex primary colour, and intertextually refers to the convention of blue tint being widely used in horror films e.g. Halloween.
• I chose the letters A and J to intertwine as they are mine and my partner’s initial of our first names making the logo more personal to ourselves.
Rough cuts
Rough cut of final film
We took some original footage of some shots that we thought would work. This is a clip of these shots.
After receiving some audience feedback we felt it was appropriate to go away and take some re-shoots of some different footage that we thought would look good. Below is a clip of some of the shots that we re-took or added in as we needed some extra shots to help establish the narrative better to the audience as some of the feedback was that they couldn’t quite grasp the narrative.

Animatic with audience feedback
Audience feedback for this animatic was:
• Good but should try and include a twist to the story
• Maybe have the geeky guy as the killer instead of the Ex-boyfriend.
• Include more killings than just 1 or 2 to make the genre a thriller.
• Ex-boyfriend to be the good guy instead of the geek.
• Include more of the girls’ friends.
• Hide the disguise of the killer.
The audience feedback was:
• To use own pictures/footage and soundtrack
• Although the soundtrack was very effective in pitching the idea
• Come up with a stronger motive for the boyfriend to want to kill his girlfriend

This is my Animatic which I produced to help me pitch my idea to the class on which I then had some audience feedback on. This task also enabled me to improve my skills using final cut express.

Ancillary texts
One of our ancillary tasks is to produce a film magazine front cover featuring out film trailer. I have looked and researched film magazines to find out what they consist of and what you would typically find in them.
One film magazine i have looked at is the 'Skymovies' magazine which people who have sky and skymovies will recieve each month.
There are different sections to the magazine- Consists of the months premieres so which films are being shown for the first time within the month.
- Has news about new films that are being released
- Film reviews
- competitions
- Has different sections for different genre's eg: Comedy, Action/thriller, Family, Drama, Sci-Fi/ Horror, Classics, Modern greats and Indie.
- The front cover of the magazine is themed for the season/ time of year, the most recent 'Skymovies' magazine (christmas 2009) has a christmas theme.
- There is a dark backround with lighter writing on it, eg: dark blue background and light blue/white writing on it.
- This front coverhas the website on the front aswell 'www.skymovies.com
- Has the date and the issue number
- has some infomation on thr front cover as to what is included in the magazine and has some big star names.
- The cast from madagasca on the front, they are well know so a lot of people will be able to relate to it.
Another magazine i have looked at is the sky magazine.
This magazine consists of the same things that the skymovies magazine consists of.- The front cover has the same colour pattern, its a black background with stars (due to the theme of christmas) with white writing over the top of it.
- 'sky' is in different writing, the font is large and bold, in a different colour to the rest of the writing.
- again its telling the reader what is inside the magazine, trying to attract the reader to read more of it.
- Also the person in the front cover is Daniel Craig, who is a well known actor which could also be attracting the reader to read more and watch the films that are being advertised inside the magazine.
- Again this film magazine features a character from a film and is most likely trying to promote the film.
The writing on the 'Empire' film magazines is most of the time in the same font however it may be a different colour depending on what the film is actually featuring, this magazine is a prime example. There is a photo of 'Iron Man' on the front and he is obviously very powerful and strong therefore the text on the front cover of this magazine has been altered to make is stand out and make it fit in well with the theme of 'Iron Man'. The writing has a glow effect on it which also links in with the glow light which is in the middle of his body.- The magazine front cover has things such as ' The ultimate review of 2009' which is bound to attract a reader.
- Likemost magazines, it has the date, and cost in the top left hand corner, which is typical for any magazine whether it is film or not.
- The front cover includes a tag line for the film 'Iron Man' whih is 'new suit. new enemies. same attitude'
- After that it also says 'THREE AMAZING EXCLUSIVES' which is also put in to attract a reader as the magazine front cover is telling the reader what else is in the magazine itself.
- The colours of the film front cover are dark and powerful which again will link in with the theme of it 'Iron Man'
Ancillary task: final teaser poster and poster
- This is our teaser poster which we have developed through a number of images, we wanted to use a striking image as we found most of the teaser posters rather than posters usually consist of one striking image. We chose the eye looking out of a hidden place as it links in well with our narrative, as the girlfriend is hiding away from the killer. There is a striking light shine in the eye in the poster which was supposed to signify the knife of the killer, suggesting the killer is near to the girl. Over the entire poster we used a yellow tint effect using light, this is a characteristic that you would usually find in a horror poster to connote horror. The font we used was a serif text which also connotes sharp and phallic objects such as the weapons used by the killer, such as knifes. We used the colour red to signify blood and death to the audience which could also be a typical characteristic for the genre of horror.
- This is our original picture for our poster; we were originally going to just use the picture by itself with a blur filter over the top, including logos, information and some reviews. After some audience feedback we decided to add other pictures in, of the other main characters which were going to be faded into the background of this main picture to show the audience the other characters.
This image was later added to our film poster due to audience feedback we thought it necessary, as a less educated audience weren't always able to gather the main scene was a shower scene inspired by 'Psycho'.
- This image was manipulated to fit in with the genre of our film poster by using the 'lasso tool' to cut out the image, reducing the 'opacity' and finally re-'sizing' and 'rotating' the image to the correct size and position.
• The main image in the poster is a reference from 'The Dark Knight' film poster as the joker is stood behind a piece of glass with some writing on the glass, in the effect of blood. We had hoped to achieve this. By writing our film title on the glass door to the shower.
• Another reference to our main image is the famous shower scene from 'Psycho' which will help establish the genre to the audience as an audience for horror films are likely to be familiar with the shower scene from 'Psycho'. This image also shows the girls vulnerability.
• We put two reviews in the poster, 'The Sun' we put in because it is a well known newspaper and will be easy for an audience to relate to. The other film review we put is was from 'Fangoria' we chose this because it is related to the genre of horror so we felt it would work well.
• We chose the release date for our film carefully. We decided to choose the next Friday 13th which happens to fall in August of next year. 'Friday 13th' is a well known horror film and people seem to suggest that bad things happen on Friday 13th therefore we felt that this date would be appropriate for a release of a new horror film.
• The iconography within this poster are the hoody as this is used throughout the film trailer by the Ex-boyfriend as well as the killer which suggests that he is the killer and also the knife which is the murder weapon throughout the film from which all the characters are killed therefore it plays an important part in the film and it could signify blood and death.
• We chose a serif font which is a convention of horror and we felt is appropriate for the writing to be red which could also signify blood.
• Our production logo is in the bottom left hand corner of the poster and we linked our logo in with the shower scene as we felt it worked well with our poster and our genre.

Storyboards
Final Idea
• About a couple who are together, both very popular and seem to work well together. The girl in the relationship (Sarah) is a very bright girl and does very well at school despite her busy social life.• The couple have a very close set of friends, a few girls and a few guys who always 'hang out' together after school and on weekends. Sarah has her close friends (Hannah) who are almost inseparable. Apart from Sarah having her friends from her own group she also has friends outside of it, one of which is a geeky, less popular guy (Ben I) who seems to be struggling at school ( so we think) therefore Sarah offers to help him with his studies by becoming his own personal 'tutor'.
• As Sarah starts to tutor the geeky, less popular guy her boyfriend (Ben C) starts to get quite obsessive and some what protective over his girlfriend. The couple start to have major arguments over silly little things which lead to Sarah deciding she can no longer carry on her relationship with him.
• After Sarah sends Ben C text ‘Its Over’ strange things start to happen and Sarah starts to feel as though she is being watched/stalked but she doesn’t know who by. She suspects its her Ex boyfriend as she knows he became very obsessive, when she bumps into him at the corner shop think convinces her even more that it is him watching her.
• Sarah starts to receive notes and gifts from an anonymous sender. Sarah tells her friends she is scared and doesn’t know what to do but after finds that one by one her friends are being murdered, one is a bath, one whilst walking home and one while watching TV.
• Sarah doesn’t quite know what to do now, while watching TV she thinks what her next move should be, whether that be telling her parents or even the police....
• While watching TV she senses that someone could be in the house but tried to put this thought out of her head and carries on watching TV.
• The geeky, less popular guy (Ben I) is stood behind Sarah with a knife as Sarah turns around he tries to calm her down but she runs and hides herself in another room down stairs. Ben I doesn’t know where she is so he seeks her all over the house, starting upstairs, getting closer and closer to her.
• Lucky for Sarah her Ex boyfriend decides to pop around seen as her parents aren’t in and he is worried about her as she has been acting strange with him due to the watching, notes and gifts she suspects he has been sending her.
• Sarah decides to make a run for the front door to find her ex-boyfriend stood outside, she tries to explain to him what is going on but he cannot understand what she is saying.
• They soon end up hiding and calling the police, the geeky, less popular guy is now looking for Sarah outside, after a bit more of 'hide and seek' the police arrive and the geeky, less popular guy ends up being sent to a mental hospital.
The preferred reading of our film trailer is that Ben (Caties/boyfriend) is the serial killer, however this isn’t true; the twist is in the educated reading as the actual killer is Lewis( Ellies more unpopular friend that she tutors)
Final Idea.
Versimilartude is created by using familiar locations such as home, and using scenes of the primary target audiences general activities which helps the audience to relate to the trailer such as a social scene of a group of make and female friends and a more personal scene of girlfriends chatting, this helps the audience to apply the trailer to their own lives, which dramatises the more frightening aspects.
